2025-06-25lmb: replace lmb_reserve() and lmb_alloc_addr() API'sSughosh Ganu
There currently are multiple allocation API's in the LMB module. There are a couple of API's for allocating memory(lmb_alloc() and lmb_alloc_base()), and then there are two for requesting a reservation for a particular memory region (lmb_reserve() and lmb_alloc_addr()). Introduce a single API lmb_alloc_mem() which will cater to all types of allocation requests and replace lmb_reserve() and lmb_alloc_addr() with the new API. Moreover, the lmb_reserve() API is pretty similar to the lmb_alloc_addr() API, with the one difference being that the lmb_reserve() API allows for reserving any address passed to it -- the address need not be part of the LMB memory map. The lmb_alloc_addr() does check that the address being requested is actually part of the LMB memory map. There is no need to support reserving memory regions which are outside the LMB memory map. Remove the lmb_reserve() API functionality and use the functionality provided by lmb_alloc_addr() instead. The lmb_alloc_addr() will check if the requested address is part of the LMB memory map and return an error if not. 2025-05-29Merge patch series "Start removing <env.h> from headers when not required"Tom Rini
Tom Rini <[email protected]> says: Given Simon's series at [1] I started looking in to what brings in <env.h> when not strictly required and in turn has some unintended implicit includes. This series takes care of the places where, commonly, <linux/string.h> or <env.h> itself were required along with a few other less common cases. This sets aside for the moment what to do about net-common.h and env_get_ip() as I'm not entirely sure what's best there. Unlike ARM and X86, booting 32-bit images on 64-bit CPUs is currently not supported for Risc-V. Hence, for bootm, disallow booting a FIT or a legacy image that was built for an arch type which is different than the current arch and for booti, set the arch type to be the same as the current arch. 2024-09-03lmb: make LMB memory map persistent and globalSughosh Ganu
The current LMB API's for allocating and reserving memory use a per-caller based memory view. Memory allocated by a caller can then be overwritten by another caller. Make these allocations and reservations persistent using the alloced list data structure. Two alloced lists are declared -- one for the available(free) memory, and one for the used memory. Once full, the list can then be extended at runtime. Take care to use the same value for boot_progress even though it is a little inconsistent. For booti make sure it only uses argv[] and argc at the top of the function, so we can eventually refactor to remove these parameters. https://source.denx.de/u-boot/custodians/u-boot-tpm bootX measurements and measurement API moved to u-boot core: Up to now, U-Boot could perform measurements and EventLog creation as described by the TCG spec when booting via EFI. The EFI code was residing in lib/efi_loader/efi_tcg2.c and contained both EFI specific code + the API needed to access the TPM, extend PCRs and create an EventLog. The non-EFI part proved modular enough and moving it around to the TPM subsystem was straightforward. With that in place we can have a common API for measuring binaries regardless of the boot command, EFI or boot(m|i|z), and contructing an EventLog. I've tested all of the EFI cases -- booting with an empty EventLog and booting with a previous stage loader providing one and found no regressions. Eddie tested the bootX part. Eddie also fixed the sandbox TPM which couldn't be used for the EFI code and it now supports all the required capabilities. This had a slight sideeffect in our testing since the EFI subsystem initializes the TPM early and 'tpm2 init' failed during some python tests. That code only opens the device though, so we can replace it with 'tpm2 autostart' which doesn't error out and still allows you to perfom the rest of the tests but doesn't report an error if the device is already opened. There's a few minor issues with this PR as well but since testing and verifying the changes takes a considerable amount of time, I prefer merging it now. Heinrich has already sent a PR for -master containing "efi_loader: fix EFI_ENTRY point on get_active_pcr_banks" and I am not sure if that will cause any conflicts, but in any case they should be trivial to resolve. Both the EFI and non-EFI code have a Kconfig for measuring the loaded Device Tree. The reason this is optional is that we can't reason when/if devices add random info like kaslr-seed, mac addresses etc in the DT. In that case measurements are random, board specific and eventually useless. The reason it was difficult to fix it prior to this patchset is because the EFI subsystem and thus measurements was brought up late and DT fixups might have already been applied. With this patchset we can measure the DT really early in the future. Heinrich also pointed out that the two Kconfigs for the DTB measurements can be squashed in a single one and that the documentation only explains the non-EFI case. I agree on both but as I said this is a sane working version, so let's pull this first it's aleady big enough and painful to test.

2020-04-17image: Add compressed Image parsing support in booti.Atish Patra
Add compressed Image parsing support so that booti can parse both flat and compressed Image to boot Linux. Currently, it is difficult to calculate a safe address for every board where the compressed image can be decompressed. It is also not possible to figure out the size of the compressed file as well. Thus, user need to set two additional environment variables kernel_comp_addr_r and filesize to make this work. Following compression methods are supported for now. lzma, lzo, bzip2, gzip. lz4 support is not added as ARM64 kernel generates a lz4 compressed image with legacy header which U-Boot doesn't know how to parse and decompress. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. 2017-03-14arm64: booti: allow to place kernel image anywhere in physical memoryMasahiro Yamada
At first, the ARM64 Linux booting requirement recommended that the kernel image be placed text_offset bytes from 2MB aligned base near the start of usable system RAM because memory below that base address was unusable at that time. This requirement was relaxed by Linux commit a7f8de168ace ("arm64: allow kernel Image to be loaded anywhere in physical memory"). Since then, the bit 3 of the flags field indicates the tolerance of the kernel physical placement. If this bit is set, the 2MB aligned base may be anywhere in physical memory. For details, see Documentation/arm64/booting.txt of Linux. The booti command should be also relaxed. If the bit 3 is set, images->ep is respected, and the image is placed at the nearest bootable location. Otherwise, it is relocated to the start of the system RAM to keep the original behavior. Another wrinkle we need to take care of is the unknown endianness of text_offset for a kernel older than commit a2c1d73b94ed (i.e. v3.16). We can detect this based on the image_size field. If the field is zero, just use a fixed offset 0x80000. Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <[email protected]>
