2023-05-11acpi: Create a new Kconfig for ACPISimon Glass
We have several Kconfig options for ACPI, but all relate to specific functions, such as generating tables and AML code. Add a new option which controls including basic ACPI library code, including the lib/acpi directory. This will allow us to add functions which are available even if table generation is not supported. 2023-01-18event: Correct dependencies on the EVENT frameworkTom Rini
The event framework is just that, a framework. Enabling it by itself does nothing, so we shouldn't ask the user about it. Reword (and correct typos) around this the option and help text. This also applies to DM_EVENT and EVENT_DYNAMIC. Only EVENT_DEBUG and CMD_EVENT should be visible to the user to select, when EVENT is selected. With this, it's time to address the larger problems. When functionality uses events, typically via EVENT_SPY, the appropriate framework then must be select'd and NOT imply'd. As the functionality will cease to work (and so, platforms will fail to boot) this is non-optional and where select is appropriate. Audit the current users of EVENT_SPY to have a more fine-grained approach to select'ing the framework where used. Also ensure the current users of event_register and also select EVENT_DYNAMIC. The rest of the unmigrated CONFIG symbols in the CONFIG_SYS namespace do not easily transition to Kconfig. In many cases they likely should come from the device tree instead. 2022-09-29dm: core: Add definitions for multiple ofnode treesSimon Glass
At present, unless OF_LIVE is enabled, ofnode only supports access to one device tree, the control FDT. This is because only the node offset is encoded in ofnode, with the tree being implicit. This makes ofnode (without OF_LIVE) unsuitable for device tree fixups, as implemented by ft_board_setup() and other such functions. This reverts commit d64b9cdcd475eb7f07b49741ded87e24dae4a5fc. As pointed by [1] and [2], the reverted patch made every DT 'reg' property translatable. What the patch was trying to fix was fixed in a different way from previously submitted patches which instead of correcting the generic address translation function fixed the issue with appropriate platform code. At present we decode simple bus <ranges> using the following assumption: - parent #address-cells 1 - child #address-cells 1 - child #size-cells 1 However this might not always be the case. Update to use fdt_addr_t and fdt_size_t in 'struct simple_bus_plat', and use fdt_read_ranges() to correctly decode it according to the actual parent and child #address-cells / #size-cells under a Kconfig option CONFIG_SIMPLE_BUS_CORRECT_RANGE which can be turned on for any board that needs it. Calculating the DMA offset between a bus address space and CPU's every time we call phys_to_bus() and bus_to_phys() isn't ideal performance wise, as it implies traversing the device tree from the device's node up to the root. Since this information is static and available before the device's initialization, parse it before the probe call an provide the DMA offset in 'struct udevice' for the address translation code to use it. 2021-01-12fdt: translate address if #size-cells = <0>Dario Binacchi
The __of_translate_address routine translates an address from the device tree into a CPU physical address. A note in the description of the routine explains that the crossing of any level with since inherited from IBM. This does not happen for Texas Instruments, or at least for the beaglebone device tree. Without this patch, in fact, the translation into physical addresses of the registers contained in the am33xx-clocks.dtsi nodes would not be possible. They all have a parent with #size-cells = <0>. The CONFIG_OF_TRANSLATE_ZERO_SIZE_CELLS symbol makes translation possible even in the case of crossing levels with #size-cells = <0>. The patch acts conservatively on address translation, except for removing a check within the of_translate_one function in the drivers/core/of_addr.c file: + ranges = of_get_property(parent, rprop, &rlen); - if (ranges == NULL && !of_empty_ranges_quirk(parent)) { - debug("no ranges; cannot translate\n"); - return 1; - } if (ranges == NULL || rlen == 0) { offset = of_read_number(addr, na); memset(addr, 0, pna * 4); debug("empty ranges; 1:1 translation\n"); There are two reasons: 1 The function of_empty_ranges_quirk always returns false, invalidating the following if statement in case of null ranges. Therefore one of the two checks is useless. 2 The implementation of the of_translate_one function found in the common/fdt_support.c file has removed this check while keeping the one about the 1:1 translation. The patch adds a test and modifies a check for the correctness of an address in the case of enabling translation also for zero size cells. The added test checks translations of addresses generated by nodes of a device tree similar to those you can find in the files am33xx.dtsi and am33xx-clocks.dtsi for which the patch was created. The patch was also tested on a beaglebone black board. The addresses generated for the registers of the loaded drivers are those specified by the AM335x reference manual. 2020-12-22dm: core: Inline a few ofnode functions in SPLSimon Glass
A recent change to unify the flattree/livetree code introduced a small size increase in SPL on some boards. For example SPL code size for px30-core-ctouch2-px30 increased by 40 bytes. To address this we can take advantage of the fact that some of the ofnode functions are only called a few times in SPL, so it is worth inlining them. Add new Kconfig options to control this. These functions are not inlined for U-Boot proper, since this increases code size. 2020-04-16dm: core: Add basic ACPI supportSimon Glass
ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) is a standard for specifying information about a platform. It is a little like device tree but the bindings are part of the specification and it supports an interpreted bytecode language. Driver model does not use ACPI for U-Boot's configuration, but it is convenient to have it support generation of ACPI tables for passing to Linux, etc. As a starting point, add an optional set of ACPI operations to each device. Initially only a single operation is available, to obtain the ACPI name for the device. More operations are added later. Enable ACPI for sandbox to ensure build coverage and so that we can add tests. Several options are presenting themselves on a various boards where the options are clearly not used. (ie, SPL/TPL options when SPL or TPL are not defined) This patch is not attempting to be a complete list of items, but more like low hanging fruit. In some instances, I wasn't sure of DM was required, so I simply made them SPL or TPL. 2019-04-23dm: core: Change platform specific translation-offset handlingStefan Roese
Testing has shown that the current DM implementation of a platform / board specific translation offset, as its needed for the SPL on MVEBU platforms is buggy. The translation offset is confingured too late, after the driver bind functions are run. This may result in incorrect address translations. With the current implementation its not possible to configure the offset earlier, as the DM code has not run at all. This patch now removed the set_/get_translation_offset() calls and moves the translation offset into the GD variable translation_offset. This variable will get used when CONFIG_TRANSLATION_OFFSET is enabled. This option is enabled only for MVEBU on ARM32 platforms, where its currenty needed and configured in the SPL. This is however needed by platforms that re-select their dtb after DM is initialized; they need to remove all the previously bound devices before triggering a scan of the new DT. Some platforms have very limited SRAM to run SPL code, so there may not be the same amount space for a malloc pool before relocation in the SPL stage as the normal U-Boot stage. Make SPL and (the full) U-Boot stage use independent SYS_MALLOC_F_LEN, so the size of pre-relocation malloc pool can be configured memory space independently. 2017-06-01dm: core: Add device-based 'read' functions to access DTSimon Glass
It is common to read a device-tree property from the node associated with a device. Add convenience functions to do this so that drivers do not need to deal with accessing the ofnode from the device. These functions all start with 'dev_read_' to provide consistent naming for all functions which read information from a device's device tree node.
