2026-02-17treewide: Clean up DECLARE_GLOBAL_DATA_PTR usagePeng Fan
Remove DECLARE_GLOBAL_DATA_PTR from files where gd is not used, and drop the unnecessary inclusion of asm/global_data.h. Headers should be included directly by the files that need them, rather than indirectly via global_data.h. 2025-07-24treewide: Remove empty board_init() function from all boardsSam Protsenko
Commit 86acdce2ba88 ("common: add config for board_init() call") introduced CONFIG_BOARD_INIT option. This option can be disabled for the boards where board_init() function is not needed. Remove empty board_init() calls for all boards where it's possible, and disable CONFIG_BOARD_INIT in all related defconfigs. This cleanup was made semi-automatically using these scripts: [1]. No functional change, but the binary size for the modified boards is reduced a bit. 2024-09-10treewide: drop redundant "type string" for SYS_SOC and friendsRasmus Villemoes
The Kconfig symbols SYS_ARCH, SYS_CPU, SYS_SOC, SYS_VENDOR and SYS_BOARD are defined in arch/Kconfig as having type string, and most board files simply amend those definition with suitable default "foo" or default "foo" if BAR stanzas. But some also include a redundant repetition of the type. Homogenize the code base by removing those lines. Generated by find arch/*/ board -name Kconfig | xargs perl -i -g -pe 's/(config SYS_(ARCH|CPU|SOC|VENDOR|BOARD)\n)\s*string\n/\1/gs' with the trailing slash in arch/*/ ensuring that arch/Kconfig itself is not found. This does not change boards which add a prompt string, e.g. string "Board name" because I think those change the semantics of the symbol into being user-settable. 2024-05-19Revert "Merge patch series "arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet""Tom Rini
When bringing in the series 'arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet"' I failed to notice that b4 noticed it was based on next and so took that as the base commit and merged that part of next to master. 2024-02-27Kconfig: Centralize prompting for SYS_CONFIG_NAMETom Rini
Generally speaking, we do not prompt for this value and define it in the board specific Kconfig file. There are some valid use cases however today where we do prompt for this value, so instead of having this be done in a number of locations, do this at the top-level location only. This removes the question from a number of other locations and makes it consistent that when we do set the value directly, we always do it the same way. We don't need to specify the type, it's always string. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>

2021-09-07arm: Disable ATAGs supportTom Rini
With the exceptions of ds109, ds414, icnova-a20-swac, nokia_rx51 and stemmy, disable ATAG support. A large number of platforms had enabled support but never supported a kernel so old as to require it. Further, some platforms are old enough to support both, but are well supported by devicetree booting, and have been for a number of years. This is because some of the ATAGs related functions have been re-used to provide the same kind of information, but for devicetree or just generally to inform the user. When needed still, rename these functions to get_board_revision() instead, to avoid conflicts. In other cases, these functions were simply unused, so drop them. 2021-02-02common: Drop asm/global_data.h from common headerSimon Glass
Move this out of the common header and include it only where needed. In a number of cases this requires adding "struct udevice;" to avoid adding another large header or in other cases replacing / adding missing header files that had been pulled in, very indirectly. Finally, we have a few cases where we did not need to include <asm/global_data.h> at all, so remove that include. We should not use typedefs in U-Boot. They cannot be used as forward declarations which means that header files must include the full header to access them. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag and have introduced one. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>
