2025-11-27cmd/extension: avoid NULL pointer dereferenceHeinrich Schuchardt
extension_get_list() will return NULL if there is no extension device. Check for this situation. Addresses-Coverity-ID: 638557 - Null pointer dereferences (NULL_RETURNS) Fixes: 2d12958ee71b ("boot: Remove legacy extension board support") Signed-off-by: Heinrich Schuchardt <[email protected]> Acked-by: Kory Maincent <[email protected]>
2025-11-03boot: extension: Move overlay apply custom logic to command levelKory Maincent (TI.com)
The extension_overlay_cmd environment variable approach is specific to the U-Boot extension_board command, while other boot flows (pxe_utils, bootstd) handle overlay loading differently. Move the extension_overlay_cmd execution out of the core extension framework to the command level. This decouples the framework from command-specific behavior and prepares for future extension support in other boot flows. 2025-11-03boot: Remove legacy extension board supportKory Maincent (TI.com)
Remove the legacy extension board implementation now that all boards have been converted to use the new UCLASS-based framework. This eliminates lines of legacy code while preserving functionality through the modern driver model approach. Update the bootstd tests, due to the removal of extension hunter. 2025-11-03boot: Add UCLASS support for extension boardsKory Maincent (TI.com)
Introduce UCLASS-based extension board support to enable more standardized and automatic loading of extension board device tree overlays in preparation for integration with bootstd and pxe_utils. Several #if CONFIG_IS_ENABLED are used in cmd/extension_board.c to ease the development but don't worry they are removed later in the series. 2025-11-03boot: Move extension board support from cmd/ to boot/Kory Maincent (TI.com)
Relocate extension board support from cmd/ to boot/ directory in preparation for converting the extension framework to use UCLASS. Also improve code style by applying reverse xmas tree ordering. Signed-off-by: Kory Maincent (TI.com) <[email protected]>
2025-05-29global: Avoid indirect inclusion of <env.h> from <command.h>Tom Rini
The include file <command.h> does not need anything from <env.h>. Furthermore, include/env.h itself includes other headers which can lead to longer indirect inclusion paths. To prepare to remove <env.h> from <command.h> fix all of the places which had relied on this indirect inclusion to instead include <env.h> directly. 2024-05-19Revert "Merge patch series "arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet""Tom Rini
When bringing in the series 'arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet"' I failed to notice that b4 noticed it was based on next and so took that as the base commit and merged that part of next to master. 2023-01-23extension: Refactor to allow non-command usageSimon Glass
The current extension code is designed to be used from commands. We want to add a boot driver which uses it. To help with this, split the code into the command processing and a function which actually does the scan. Really the extension code should be in common/ or use driver model, but this is a start. 2022-08-04cmd: undefined return value of do_extension_apply()Heinrich Schuchardt

2021-05-13cmd: add support for a new "extension" commandKory Maincent
This patch adds a new "extension" command, which aims at detecting extension boards connected to the hardware platform, and apply the Device Tree overlays that describe the hardware present on those extension boards. In order to enable this mechanism, board-specific code must implement the extension_board_scan() function that fills in a linked list of "struct extension", each describing one extension board. In addition, the board-specific code must select the SUPPORT_EXTENSION_SCAN Kconfig boolean. Based on this: - "extension scan" makes the generic code call the board-specific extension_board_scan() function to retrieve the list of detected extension boards. - "extension list" allows to list the detected extension boards. - "extension apply <number>|all" allows to apply the Device Tree overlay(s) corresponding to one, or all, extension boards The latter requires two environment variables to exist and set one variable to run: - extension_overlay_addr: the RAM address where to load the Device Tree overlays - extension_overlay_cmd: the U-Boot command to load one overlay. Indeed, the location and mechanism to load DT overlays is very setup specific. - extension_overlay_name: set by the command: the name of the DT which will be load during the execution. When calling the command described in the extension_overlay_cmd variable, the variable extension_overlay_name will be defined. So a typical extension_overlay_cmd will look like this: extension_overlay_cmd=load mmc 0:1 $extension_overlay_addr /boot/$extension_overlay_name Here is an example on how to use it: => run loadfdt => fdt addr $fdtaddr => setenv extension_overlay_addr 0x1000 => setenv extension_overlay_cmd 'load mmc 0:1 ${extension_overlay_addr} /boot/${extension_overlay_name}' => extension scan Found 1 extension board(s). => extension apply 0 519 bytes read in 3 ms (168.9 KiB/s) Signed-off-by: Kory Maincent <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Maxime Ripard <[email protected]>
