The net_loop() currently conflates return value with file size
at the end of successful transfer, in NETLOOP_SUCCESS state.
The return type of net_loop() is int, which makes this practice
workable for file sizes below 2 GiB, but anything above that will
lead to overflow and bogus negative return value from net_loop().
The return file size is only used by a few sites in the code base,
which can be easily fixed. Change the net_loop() return value to
always be only a return code, in case of error the returned value
is the error code, in case of successful transfer the value is 0
or 1 instead of 0 or net_boot_file_size . This surely always fits
into a signed integer.
By keeping the return code 0 or 1 in case of successful transfer,
no conditionals which depended on the old behavior are broken, but
all the sites had to be inspected and updated accordingly.
Fix the few sites which depend on the file size by making them
directly use the net_boot_file_size variable value. This variable
is accessible to all of those sites already, because they all
include net-common.h .

When bringing in the series 'arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay
Ethernet"' I failed to notice that b4 noticed it was based on next and
so took that as the base commit and merged that part of next to master.
This reverts commit c8ffd1356d42223cbb8c86280a083cc3c93e6426, reversing
changes made to 2ee6f3a5f7550de3599faef9704e166e5dcace35.

We can enforce the dependencies of this module via Kconfig now, so do so
rather than with #error statements. Further, we can ensure that all
required values are set to their defaults in Kconfig, and in fact
already do so, so remove the tests here. The exception is
CONFIG_UPDATE_LOAD_ADDR which needed to be migrated to Kconfig in the
first place.

A large number of files include <flash.h> as it used to be how various
SPI flash related functions were found, or for other reasons entirely.
In order to migrate some further CONFIG symbols to Kconfig we need to
not include flash.h in cases where we don't have a NOR flash of some
sort enabled. Furthermore, in cases where we are in common code and it
doesn't make sense to try and further refactor the code itself in to new
files we need to guard this inclusion.

Replace CONFIG_SYS_MAX_FLASH_BANKS by CFI_FLASH_BANKS to prepare
Kconfig migration and avoid to redefine CONFIG_SYS_MAX_FLASH_BANKS
in cfi_flash.h.
After this patch CONFIG_SYS_MAX_FLASH_BANKS should be never used in
the cfi code: use CFI_MAX_FLASH_BANKS for struct size or CFI_FLASH_BANKS
for number of CFI banks which can be dynamic.
This patch modify all the files which include mtd/cfi_flash.h.

It is a pain to have to specify the value 16 in each call. Add a new
hextoul() function and update the code to use it.
Add a proper comment to simple_strtoul() while we are here.

At present this function does not accept a size for the FIT. This means
that it must be read from the FIT itself, introducing potential security
risk. Update the function to include a size parameter, which can be
invalid, in which case fit_check_format() calculates it.
For now no callers pass the size, but this can be updated later.
Also adjust the return value to an error code so that all the different
types of problems can be distinguished by the user.

Since update_flash() is used only in update_tftp(), it should be
guarded with appropriate config options.
After the commit 3149e524fc1e, common/update.c will be built under
either CONFIG_UDATE_TFTP, CONFIG_DFU_TFTP or CONFIG_UPDATE_FIT.
Since CONFIG_UPDATE_FIT, hence fit_update(), doesn't rely on
update_flash(), the compiler may cause an "unused" warning if
CONFIG_UPDATE_FIT=y and CONFIG_UPDATE_TFTP=n and CONFIG_DFU_TFTP=n.
This is, for example, the case for sandbox defconfig where
EFI_CAPSULE_FIRMWARE_FIT is enabled for test purpose.

The main purpose of this patch is to separate a generic interface for
updating firmware using DFU drivers from "auto-update" via tftp.
This function will also be used in implementing UEFI capsule update
in a later commit.

This function is essentially independent from tftp, and will also be
utilised in implementing UEFI capsule update in a later commit.
So just give it a more generic name.
In addition, a new configuration option, CONFIG_DFU_WRITE_ALT, was
introduced so that the file will be compiled with different options,
particularly one added in a later commit.

The environment variable loadaddr is in the virtual address space of the
sandbox. To get the actual memory address where the FIT image has been
loaded we have to convert this address according to the memory mapping of
the sandbox.
Equally the addresses in the *.its file have to be converted when used in
the dfu_ram driver.

When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and
there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the
area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it
with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the
Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first
line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line)
and with slightly different comment styles than us.
In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility
and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style.
This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared
license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag
contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag
and have introduced one.

U-Boot widely uses error() as a bit noisier variant of printf().
This macro causes name conflict with the following line in
include/linux/compiler-gcc.h:
# define __compiletime_error(message) __attribute__((error(message)))
This prevents us from using __compiletime_error(), and makes it
difficult to fully sync BUILD_BUG macros with Linux. (Notice
Linux's BUILD_BUG_ON_MSG is implemented by using compiletime_assert().)
Let's convert error() into now treewide-available pr_err().
Done with the help of Coccinelle, excluing tools/ directory.
The semantic patch I used is as follows:

We are now using an env_ prefix for environment functions. Rename these
two functions for consistency. Also add function comments in common.h.
Quite a few places use getenv() in a condition context, provoking a
warning from checkpatch. These are fixed up in this patch also.

We repeated partial moves for CONFIG_SYS_NO_FLASH, but this is
not completed. Finish this work by the tool.
During this move, let's rename it to CONFIG_MTD_NOR_FLASH.
Actually, we have more instances of "#ifndef CONFIG_SYS_NO_FLASH"
than those of "#ifdef CONFIG_SYS_NO_FLASH". Flipping the logic will
make the code more readable. Besides, negative meaning symbols do
not fit in obj-$(CONFIG_...) style Makefiles.
This commit was created as follows:
[1] Edit "default n" to "default y" in the config entry in
common/Kconfig.
[2] Run "tools/moveconfig.py -y -r HEAD SYS_NO_FLASH"
[3] Rename the instances in defconfigs by the following:

This code allows using DFU defined mediums for storing data received via
TFTP protocol.
It reuses and preserves functionality of legacy code at common/update.c.
The update_tftp() function now accepts parameters - namely medium device
name and its number (e.g. mmc 1).
Without this information passed old behavior is preserved.

CONFIG_SYS_NO_FLASH is set
Up till now it was impossible to use code from update.c when system
was not equipped with raw FLASH memory.
Such behavior prevented DFU from reusing this code.

Current update_tftp() flow:
1.) fetch "updatefile" from defined TFTP server
2.) check if FIT format
3.) flash contained images
Add an address parameter to update_tftp(). If this address is non-zero,
skip the TFTP transfer and use the image at this address.
Also extend update_tftp() to return success/fail.

The auto-update feature allows to automatically download software updates
from a TFTP server and store them in Flash memory during boot. Updates are
contained in a FIT file and protected with SHA-1 checksum.
More detailed description can be found in doc/README.update.
