2025-11-20Introduce the Generic System Interconnect SubsystemNeil Armstrong
Let's introduce the Generic System Interconnect subsystem based on the counterpart Linux framework which is used to vote for bandwidth across multiple SoC busses. Documentation for the Linux Generic System Interconnect Subsystem can be found at [1]. Each bus endpoints are materialised as "nodes" which are linked together, and the DT will specify a pair of nodes to enable and set a bandwidth on the route between those endpoints. The hardware resources that provide those nodes and provides the way to vote for the bandwidth are called "providers". The Interconnect uclass code is heavily based on the Linux one, with some small differences: - nodes are allocated as udevices instead of Linux idr_alloc() - tag management is minimal, only normal xlate is supported - getting nodes states at probe is not implemented - providers are probed on demand while the nodes links are traversed - nodes are populated on bind - id management is simplified, static IDs and dynamics IDs can be used - identical consume API as Linux, only implementation differs Fully tested with associated DM test suite. 2024-10-17usb: tcpm: add core frameworkSebastian Reichel
This adds TCPM framework in preparation for fusb302 support, which can handle USB power delivery messages. This is needed to solve issues with devices, that are running from a USB-C port supporting USB-PD, but not having a battery. Such a device currently boots to the kernel without interacting with the power-supply at all. If there are no USB-PD message replies within 5 seconds, the power-supply assumes the peripheral is not capable of USB-PD. It usually takes more than 5 seconds for the system to reach the kernel and probe the I2C based fusb302 chip driver. Thus the system always runs into this state. The power-supply's solution to fix this error state is a hard reset, which involves removing the power from VBUS. Boards without a battery (or huge capacitors) will reset at this point resulting in a boot loop. This imports the TCPM framework from the kernel. The porting has originally been done by Rockchip using hardware timers and the Linux kernel's TCPM code from some years ago. I had a look at upgrading to the latest TCPM kernel code, but that beast became a lot more complex due to adding more USB-C features. I believe these features are not needed in U-Boot and with multiple kthreads and hrtimers being involved it is non-trivial to port them. Instead I worked on stripping down features from the Rockchip port to an even more basic level. Also the TCPM code has been reworked to avoid complete use of any timers (Rockchip used SoC specific hardware timers + IRQ to implement delayed work mechanism). Instead the delayed state changes are handled directly from the poll loop. Note, that (in contrast to the original Rockchip port) the state machine has the same hard reset quirk, that the kernel has - i.e. it avoids disabling the CC pin resistors for devices that are not self-powered. Without that quirk, the Radxa Rock 5B will not just end up doing a machine reset when a hard reset is triggered, but will not even recover, because the CPU will loose power and the FUSB302 will keep this state because of leak voltage arriving through the RX serial pin (assuming a serial adapter is connected). This also includes a 'tcpm' command, which can be used to get information about the current state and the negotiated voltage and current. Add Arm FF-A support implementing Arm Firmware Framework for Armv8-A v1.0 The Firmware Framework for Arm A-profile processors (FF-A v1.0) [1] describes interfaces (ABIs) that standardize communication between the Secure World and Normal World leveraging TrustZone technology. This driver uses 64-bit registers as per SMCCCv1.2 spec and comes on top of the SMCCC layer. The driver provides the FF-A ABIs needed for querying the FF-A framework from the secure world. The driver uses SMC32 calling convention which means using the first 32-bit data of the Xn registers. All supported ABIs come with their 32-bit version except FFA_RXTX_MAP which has 64-bit version supported. Both 32-bit and 64-bit direct messaging are supported which allows both 32-bit and 64-bit clients to use the FF-A bus. FF-A is a discoverable bus and similar to architecture features. FF-A bus is discovered using ARM_SMCCC_FEATURES mechanism performed by the PSCI driver. Clients are able to probe then use the FF-A bus by calling the DM class searching APIs (e.g: uclass_first_device). The Secure World is considered as one entity to communicate with using the FF-A bus. FF-A communication is handled by one device and one instance (the bus). This FF-A driver takes care of all the interactions between Normal world and Secure World. The driver exports its operations to be used by upper layers. Exported operations: - ffa_partition_info_get - ffa_sync_send_receive - ffa_rxtx_unmap Generic FF-A methods are implemented in the Uclass (arm-ffa-uclass.c). Sandbox supports block devices which can access files on the host machine. At present there is no uclass for this. The devices are attached to the root devic. The block-device type is therefore set to UCLASS_ROOT which is confusing. Block devices should be attached to a 'media' device instead, something which handles access to the actual media and provides the block driver for the block device. This is called 'standard boot' since it provides a standard way for U-Boot to boot a distro, without scripting. 2021-10-31iommu: Add IOMMU uclassMark Kettenis
This uclass is intended to manage IOMMUs on systems where the IOMMUs are not in bypass mode by default. In that case U-Boot cannot ignore the IOMMUs if it wants to use devices that need to do DMA and sit behind such an IOMMU. This initial IOMMU uclass implementation does not implement and device ops and is intended for IOMMUs that have a bypass mode that does not require address translation. Support for IOMMUs that do require address translation is planned and device ops will be defined when support for such IOMMUs will be added. This uclass is intended to provide a way to obtain information about a U-Boot board. But the concept of a U-Boot 'board' is the whole system, not just one circuit board, meaning that 'board' is something of a misnomer for this uclass. In addition, the name 'board' is a bit overused in U-Boot and we want to use the same uclass to provide SMBIOS information. The obvious name is 'system' but that is so vague as to be meaningless. Use 'sysinfo' instead, since this uclass is aimed at providing information on the system. Rename everything accordingly. Note: Due to the patch delta caused by the symbol renames, this patch shows some renamed files as being deleted in one place and created in another. 2020-09-30firmware: add SCMI agent uclassEtienne Carriere
This change introduces SCMI agent uclass to interact with a firmware using the SCMI protocols [1]. SCMI agent uclass currently supports a single method to request processing of the SCMI message by an identified server. A SCMI message is made of a byte payload associated to a protocol ID and a message ID, all defined by the SCMI specification [1]. On return from process_msg() method, the caller gets the service response. SCMI agent uclass defines a post bind generic sequence for all devices. The sequence binds all the SCMI protocols listed in the FDT for that SCMI agent device. Currently none, but later change will introduce protocols. This change implements a simple sandbox device for the SCMI agent uclass. The sandbox nicely answers SCMI_NOT_SUPPORTED to SCMI messages. To prepare for further test support, the sandbox exposes a architecture function for test application to read the sandbox emulated devices state. Currently supports 2 SCMI agents, identified by an ID in the FDT device name. The simplistic DM test does nothing yet. SCMI agent uclass is designed for platforms that embed a SCMI server in a firmware hosted somewhere, for example in a companion co-processor or in the secure world of the executing processor. SCMI protocols allow an SCMI agent to discover and access external resources as clock, reset controllers and more. SCMI agent and server communicate following the SCMI specification [1]. This SCMI agent implementation complies with the DT bindings defined in the Linux kernel source tree regarding SCMI agent description since v5.8. Introduce UCLASS_SOC to be used for SOC identification and attribute matching based on the SoC ID info. This allows drivers to be provided for SoCs to retrieve SoC identifying information and also for matching device attributes for selecting SoC specific data. This is useful for other device drivers that may need different parameters or quirks enabled depending on the specific device variant in use. 2020-05-10net: Add eth phy generic driver for shared MDIOYe Li
For dual ethernet controllers, the HW design may connect ETH phys to one MDIO ports. So two different ethernet drivers have to share MDIO bus. Since two ethernet drivers are independent, we can't ensure their probe order. To resolve this problem, introduce an eth phy generic driver and uclass. After eth-uclass binds, we search the mdio node and binds the phy node with the eth-phy-generic driver. When one eth driver get its phy device, the parent of phy device will probe prior than phy device. So this ensure the eth driver ownes the MDIO bus will be probed before using its MDIO.
