2025-04-29mtd: spi-nor: Use CONFIG_IS_ENABLED for CONFIG_SPI_FLASH_BAR definesBernhard Messerklinger
At the moment a mixture of ifdef(CONFIG_IS_ENABLED) and CONFIG_IS_ENABLED(SPI_FLASH_BAR) is used in the spi-nor framework. This leads to misbehaviour in the SPL as there is no Kconfig option CONFIG_SPL_SPI_FLASH_BAR. This commit standardizes the use of CONFIG_SPI_FLASH to get SPLs that load U-Boot proper from the SPI flash to work again. The SPI_ADVANCE description does not explain what the switch does. It does not have anything to do with any advanced functionality, it only gates off support for stacked and parallel SPI NORs. Rename the Kconfig symbol, update description, and move it right next to Xilinx hardware as it seems to be specific to this hardware. Make sure the symbol is also protected by if DM_SPI in Kconfig. 2024-10-15mtd: spi-nor: Allow flashes to specify MTD writesizeTakahiro Kuwano
Some flashes like the Infineon SEMPER NOR flash family use ECC. Under this ECC scheme, multi-pass writes to an ECC block is not allowed. In other words, once data is programmed to an ECC block, it can't be programmed again without erasing it first. Upper layers like file systems need to be given this information so they do not cause error conditions on the flash by attempting multi-pass programming. This can be done by setting 'writesize' in 'struct mtd_info'. Set the default to 1 but allow flashes to modify it in fixup hooks. If more flashes show up with this constraint in the future it might be worth it to add it to 'struct flash_info', but for now increasing its size is not worth it. Some Winbond SPI NORs have special SR3 register which is used among other things to control whether non-standard "Individual Block/Sector Write Protection" (WPS bit) locking scheme is activated. This non-standard locking scheme is not supported by either U-Boot or Linux SPI NOR stack so make sure it is disabled, otherwise the SPI NOR may appear locked for no obvious reason. This SR3 WPS appears e.g. on W25Q16FW which has the same ID as W25Q16DW, but the W25Q16DW does not implement the SR3 WPS bit. Signed-off-by: Marek Vasut <[email protected]>

In parallel mode, the current implementation assumes that a maximum of two flashes are connected. The QSPI controller splits the data evenly between both the flashes so, both the flashes that are connected in parallel mode should be identical. During each operation SPI-NOR sets 0th bit for CS0 & 1st bit for CS1 in nor->flags. In stacked mode the current implementation assumes that a maximum of two flashes are connected and both the flashes are of same make but can differ in sizes. So, except the sizes all other flash parameters of both the flashes are identical Spi-nor will pass on the appropriate flash select flag to low level driver, and it will select pass all the data to that particular flash. Write operation in parallel mode are performed in page size * 2 chunks as each write operation results in writing both the flashes. For doubling the address space each operation is performed at addr/2 flash offset, where addr is the address specified by the user. Similarly for read and erase operations it will read from both flashes, so size and offset are divided by 2 and send to flash. Adding the config option SPI_ADVANCE for non SPL code. Enabling Octal DTR mode in multi-die package parts requires reister setup for each die. That can be done by simple for-loop. write_enable() takes effect to all die at once so we can call it before the loop. Besides we can replace spi_mem_exec_op() calls with spansion_read/write_any_reg(). And finally, we must mask CFR2V[7:4] when changing dummy cycles, as CFR2V[7] indicates current addressing mode and that should be 1 (4-byte address mode) for multi-die package parts. 2024-01-29mtd: spi-nor-core: Use CLPEF(0x82) as alternative to CLSR(0x30) for S25 and S28Takahiro Kuwano
Infineon(Cypress) S28Hx-T family does not support legacy CLSR(0x30) opcode. Instead, it supports CLPEF(0x82) which has the same functionality as CLSR. spansion_sr_ready() is for multi-die package parts including S28HS02GT, so we need to use CLPEF instead of CLSR. This change does not affect to S25x02GT which uses spansion_sr_ready() as S25Hx-T family also supports CLPEF(0x82) as well as CLSR(0x30). The nor->addr_width tracks number of address bytes used in read/program/erase ops and eventually set to 4 for >16MB chips, regardless of flash's internal address mode. For Infineon SEMPER flash's, we use Read/Write Any Register commands for configuration and status check. These commands take 3- or 4-byte address depending on flash's internal address mode. Force the mtd name of spi-nor to "nor" + the driver sequence number: "nor0", "nor1"... beginning after the existing nor devices. This patch is coherent with existing "nand" and "spi-nand" mtd device names. When CFI MTD NOR device are supported, the spi-nor index is chosen after the last CFI device defined by CONFIG_SYS_MAX_FLASH_BANKS. The nor->ready() and spansion_sr_ready() introduced earlier in this series are used for multi-die package parts. The nor->quad_enable() sets the volatile QE bit on each die. The nor->erase() is hooked if the device is not configured to uniform sectors, assuming it has 32 x 4KB sectors overlaid on bottom address. Other configurations, top and split, are not supported at this point. Will submit additional patches to support it as needed. The post_bfpt/sfdp() fixes the params wrongly advertised in SFDP. The Cypress Semper flash is an xSPI compliant octal DTR flash. Add support for using it in octal DTR mode. The flash by default boots in a hybrid sector mode. Switch to uniform sector mode on boot. Use the default 20 dummy cycles for a read fast command. The SFDP programming on some older versions of the flash was incorrect. Fixes for that are included in the fixup hooks. 2021-06-28mtd: spi-nor-core: Perform a Soft Reset on shutdownPratyush Yadav
On probe, the SPI NOR core will put a flash in 8D-8D-8D mode if it supports it. But Linux as of now expects to get the flash in 1S-1S-1S mode. Handing the flash to Linux in Octal DTR mode means the kernel will fail to detect the flash. So, we need to reset to Power-on-Reset (POR) state before handing off the flash. A Software Reset command can be used to do this. One limitation of the soft reset is that it will restore state from non-volatile registers in some flashes. This means that if the flash was set to 8D mode in a non-volatile configuration, a soft reset won't help. This commit assumes that we don't set any non-volatile bits anywhere, and the flash doesn't have any non-volatile Octal DTR mode configuration. Since spi-nor-tiny doesn't (and likely shouldn't) have spi_nor_soft_reset(), add a dummy spi_nor_remove() for it that does nothing. This table is indication that the flash is xSPI compliant and hence supports octal DTR mode. Extract information like the fast read opcode, the number of dummy cycles needed for a Read Status Register command, and the number of address bytes needed for a Read Status Register command. The default dummy cycles for a fast octal DTR read are set to 20. Since there is no simple way of determining the dummy cycles needed for the fast read command, flashes that use a different value should update it in their flash-specific hooks. Double Transfer Rate (DTR) is SPI protocol in which data is transferred on each clock edge as opposed to on each clock cycle. Make framework-level changes to allow supporting flashes in DTR mode. Right now, mixed DTR modes are not supported. So, for example a mode like 4S-4D-4D will not work. All phases need to be either DTR or STR. The spi-mem layer provides a spi_mem_supports_op() function to check whether a specific operation is supported by the controller or not. This is much more accurate than the hwcaps selection logic based on SPI_{RX,TX}_ flags. Rework the hwcaps selection logic to use spi_mem_supports_op(). To make sure the build doesn't break for boards not using CONFIG_DM_SPI, add a simple SPI_{RX,TX}_ based hwcaps selection logic in spi-mem-nodm similar to spi_mem_default_supports_op(). This change is only compile-tested. To avoid SPL size problems on the x530 board, the old hwcaps selection is still kept around. Leaving the code in-place was getting difficult to read and understand, so the code is restructured to have it all in one isolated function. As a result of this, the parameter hwcaps to spi_nor_setup() is no longer needed. Remove it. 2021-06-28mtd: spi-nor-core: Introduce flash-specific fixup hooksPratyush Yadav
Sometimes the information in a flash's SFDP tables is wrong. Sometimes some information just can't be expressed in the SFDP table. So, introduce the fixup hooks to allow tailoring settings for a specific flash. Three hooks are added: default_init, post_sfdp, and post_bfpt. These allow tweaking the flash settings at different point in the probe sequence. Since the hooks reside in nor->info, set that value just before the call to spi_nor_init_params(). The hooks and at what points they are executed mimics Linux's spi-nor framework. One major difference is that Linux puts the struct spi_nor_fixups in nor->info. This is not possible in U-Boot because the spi-nor-ids list is shared between spi-nor-core.c and spi-nor-tiny.c. Since spi-nor-tiny shouldn't have those fixup hooks populated, add a separate function that lets flashes populate their fixup hooks. JESD216 allow vendors to define their own SFDP tables. Add SST SFDP parser. The vendor table is allocated using resource-managed kmalloc - the table will be freed on driver detach. It will be accessible by getting the UCLASS_SPI_FLASH's private data. The SST's SFDP table is particularly of interest because contains pre-programmed globally unique EUI-48 and EUI-64 identifiers. Current U-Boot SPI NOR support (sf layer) is quite outdated as it does not support 4 byte addressing opcodes, SFDP table parsing and different types of quad mode enable sequences. Many newer flashes no longer support BANK registers used by sf layer to a access >16MB of flash address space. So, sync SPI NOR framework from Linux v4.19 that supports all the above features. Start with basic sync up that brings in basic framework subsequent commits will bring in more features.
