2026-01-06test: The LMB test depends on CONFIG_LMBHeinrich Schuchardt
Many boards use CONFIG_LMB=y but not all, e.g. amd_versal2_mini_defconfig. Building this board with CONFIG_UNIT_TEST=y fails: aarch64-linux-gnu-ld: test/lib/lmb.c:411:(.text.test_noreserved+0x428): undefined reference to `lmb_free' We should be able to enable CONFIG_UNIT_TEST on any board. With this patch the LMB test is only built if LMB is enabled which overcomes the build issue. Reviewed-by: Ilias Apalodimas <[email protected]> Signed-off-by: Heinrich Schuchardt <[email protected]>

2025-04-11Merge patch series "Switch to using $(PHASE_) in Makefiles"Tom Rini
Tom Rini <[email protected]> says: This series switches to always using $(PHASE_) in Makefiles when building rather than $(PHASE_) or $(XPL_). It also starts on documenting this part of the build, but as a follow-up we need to rename doc/develop/spl.rst and expand on explaining things a bit. Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/[email protected]
2025-04-11Kbuild: Always use $(PHASE_)Tom Rini
It is confusing to have both "$(PHASE_)" and "$(XPL_)" be used in our Makefiles as part of the macros to determine when to do something in our Makefiles based on what phase of the build we are in. For consistency, bring this down to a single macro and use "$(PHASE_)" only. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>

2025-01-24Merge patch series "test: Improvements to ut command and test-suite running"Tom Rini
Simon Glass <[email protected]> says: The current method of running unit tests relies on subcommands of the ut command. Only the code in each subcommand knows how to find the tests related to that subcomand. This is not ideal and we now have quite a few subcommands which do nothing but locate the relevant tests in a linker list, then call a common function to run them. This series adds a list of test suites, so that these subcommands can be removed. An issue with 'ut all' is that it doesn't record how many tests failed overall, so it is necessary to examine copious amounts of output to look for failures. This series adds a new 'total' feature allow recording the total number of failed tests. To help with 'ut all' a new pytest is created which runs it (as well as 'ut info') and makes sure that all is well. Due to the 'ut all' failures this does not pass, so the test is disabled for now. It is here because it provides security against misnaming a test suite and causing it not to run. Future work may: - get 'ut all' passing - enable test_suite() in CL, to ensure that 'ut all' keeps passing - record duration of each suite - allow running the tests in random order to tease out dependencies - tweak the output to remove common prefixes - getting rid of bootstd, optee and seame 'ut' subcommands Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/[email protected]

2024-08-07alist: Add support for an allocated pointer listSimon Glass
In various places it is useful to have an array of structures, but allow it to grow. In some cases we work around it by setting maximum number of entries, using a Kconfig option. In other places we use a linked list, which does not provide for random access and can complicate the code. Introduce a new data structure, which is a variable-sized list of structs each of the same, pre-set size. It provides O(1) access and is reasonably efficient at expanding linearly, since it doubles in size when it runs out of space. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <[email protected]>

2021-10-08Add support for an owned bufferSimon Glass
When passing a data buffer back from a function, it is not always clear who owns the buffer, i.e. who is responsible for freeing the memory used. An example of this is where multiple files are decompressed from the firmware image, using a temporary buffer for reading (since the compressed data has to live somewhere) and producing a temporary or permanent buffer with the resuilts. Where the firmware image can be memory-mapped, as on x86, the compressed data does not need to be buffered, but the complexity of having a buffer which is either allocated or not, makes the code hard to understand. Introduce a new 'abuf' which supports simple buffer operations: - encapsulating a buffer and its size - either allocated with malloc() or not - able to be reliably freed if necessary - able to be converted to an allocated buffer if needed This simple API makes it easier to deal with allocated and memory-mapped buffers.
