2024-09-06buildman: Support building within a Python venvSimon Glass
The Python virtualenv tool sets up a few things in the environment, putting its path first in the PATH environment variable and setting up a sys.prefix different from the sys.base_prefix value. At present buildman puts the toolchain path first in PATH so that it can be found easily during the build. For sandbox this causes problems since /usr/bin/gcc (for example) results in '/usr/bin' being prepended to the PATH variable. As a result, the venv is partially disabled. The result is that sandbox builds within a venv ignore the venv, e.g. when looking for packages. Correct this by detecting the venv and adding the toolchain path after the venv path. 2024-07-08Revert "buildman: Always use the full path in CROSS_COMPILE"Tom Rini
There are operations in buildman that result in running the cross-tools (such as performing size checks) and now that we have not modified PATH to know where our tools are, these operations fail. This reverts commit 6c0a3cf75f72370deec3ee516a9dd377397af207. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>
2024-07-03buildman: Always use the full path in CROSS_COMPILESimon Glass
The feature to set the toolchain path does not seem to be needed. It causes problems with venv (see [1]). Let's remove it. Add some tests while we are here. It does not look like any docs changes are needed for this. 2024-07-03tools: binman: fix deprecated Python ConfigParser methodsBrandon Maier
The method `ConfigParser.readfp()` is marked deprecated[1]. In Python 3.12 this method have been removed, so replace it with `ConfigParser.read_file()`. SafeConfigParser was renamed back in Python 3.2 (yes, no typo) to ConfigParser[1], but it was still working as an alias until it got removed in 3.12[2]. 2023-07-20buildman: Switch ARC toolchain to the upstream versionAlexey Brodkin
Back in the day we relied a lot on Synopsys own build of the GNU tools for ARC processors, but since then we worked hard on getting all our changes upstream and for a couple of years now we have ARCompact (AKA ARCv1) and ARCv2 processors supported very well in upstream GCC, Binutils, GDB etc. And so there's no need to use Synopsys forks any longer, thus we remove all the references to that form and use upstream components as majority of other architectures in U-Boot. Thanks to Tom for pointing to that left-over! 2022-11-22buildman: Add --allow-missing flag to allow missing blobsTom Rini
Add a new flag to buildman so that we will in turn pass BINMAN_ALLOW_MISSING=1 to 'make'. Make use of this flag in CI. Allow the settings file to control this. 2022-11-22buildman: Drop mention of old architecturesSimon Glass
Support for some architectures has been removed since buildman was first written. Also all toolchains are now available at kernel.org so we don't need the links, except for arc where the kernel.org toolchain fails to build all boards. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <[email protected]>

2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag and have introduced one. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>
2016-07-31buildman: Automatically create a config file if neededSimon Glass
If there is no ~/.buildman file, buildman currently complains and exists. To make things a little more friendly, create an empty one automatically. This will not allow things to be built, but --fetch-arch can be used to handle that. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <[email protected]> Reviewed-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>
2015-01-14buildman: Add the option to download toolchains from kernel.orgSimon Glass
The site at https://www.kernel.org/pub/tools/crosstool/ is a convenient repository of toolchains which can be used for U-Boot. Add a feature to download and install a toolchain for a selected architecture automatically. It isn't clear how long this site will stay in the current place and format, but we should be able to rely on bug reports if it changes. 2013-04-04buildman - U-Boot multi-threaded builder and summary toolSimon Glass
This tool handles building U-Boot to check that you have not broken it with your patch series. It can build each individual commit and report which boards fail on which commits, and which errors come up. It also shows differences in image sizes due to particular commits. Buildman aims to make full use of multi-processor machines. Documentation and caveats are in tools/buildman/README. Signed-off-by: Simon Glass <[email protected]>
