2025-11-06armv8: implement workaround for broken CNTFRQ_EL0 valueKaustabh Chakraborty
In devices where the U-Boot is used as a secondary bootloader, we rely on the device's primary bootloader to implement CNTFRQ_EL0. However, this reliance may lead to a non-functional timer in broken firmware. For instance, some versions of Samsung's S-Boot don't implement it. It's also not possible to set it in the U-Boot, because it's booted in a lower exception level. CNTFRQ_EL0 is reported to be 0. Use gd->arch.timer_rate_hz to override the queried value if set. This setting needs to be done in the board file, preferrably in timer_init(). This feature is present only when the CONFIG_ARMV8_CNTFRQ_BROKEN is enabled. 2024-05-19Revert "Merge patch series "arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet""Tom Rini
When bringing in the series 'arm: dts: am62-beagleplay: Fix Beagleplay Ethernet"' I failed to notice that b4 noticed it was based on next and so took that as the base commit and merged that part of next to master. This reverts commit c8ffd1356d42223cbb8c86280a083cc3c93e6426, reversing changes made to 2ee6f3a5f7550de3599faef9704e166e5dcace35. 2024-05-13armv8: generic_timer: Use event stream for udelayPeter Hoyes
Polling cntpct_el0 in a tight loop for delays is inefficient. This is particularly apparent on Arm FVPs, which do not simulate real time, meaning that a 1s sleep can take a couple of orders of magnitude longer to execute in wall time. If running at EL2 or above (where CNTHCTL_EL2 is available), enable the cntpct_el0 event stream temporarily and use wfe to implement the delay more efficiently. The event period is chosen as a trade-off between efficiency and the fact that Arm FVPs do not typically simulate real time. This is only implemented for Armv8 boards, where an architectural timer exists, and only enabled by default for the ARCH_VEXPRESS64 board family. 2021-02-02common: Drop asm/global_data.h from common headerSimon Glass
Move this out of the common header and include it only where needed. In a number of cases this requires adding "struct udevice;" to avoid adding another large header or in other cases replacing / adding missing header files that had been pulled in, very indirectly. Finally, we have a few cases where we did not need to include <asm/global_data.h> at all, so remove that include. 2018-07-03arm: timer: sunxi: add Allwinner timer erratum workaroundAndre Przywara
The Allwinner A64 SoCs suffers from an arch timer implementation erratum, where sometimes the lower 11 bits of the counter value erroneously become all 0's or all 1's [1]. This leads to sudden jumps, both forwards and backwards, with the latter one often showing weird behaviour. Port the workaround proposed for Linux to U-Boot and activate it for all A64 boards. This fixes crashes when accessing MMC devices (SD cards), caused by a recent change to actually use the counter value for timeout checks. At the moment we have the workaround for the Freescale arch timer erratum A-008585 merged into the generic timer_read_counter() routine. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag and have introduced one. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>
2017-05-11arm: Correct signature for get_ticks()Simon Glass

2016-11-05armv8: define get_ticks() for the ARMv8 Generic TimerAndre Przywara
For 64-bit ARM systems we provide just a timer_read_counter() implementation and rely on the generic non-uclass get_ticks() function in lib/time.c to call the former. However this function is actually not 64-bit safe, as it assumes a "long" to be 32-bit. Beside the fact that the resulting uint64_t isn't bigger than "long" on 64-bit architectures and thus combining two counters makes no sense, we get all kind of weird results when we try to OR in the high value shifted by _32_ bits. So let's avoid that function at all and provide a straight forward get_ticks() implementation for ARMv8, which also is in line with ARMv7. This fixes occasional immediate time-out expiration issues I see on the Pine64 board. The root cause of this needs to be investigated, but this fix looks like the right thing anyway.
