The ARM announce_and_cleanup() duplicates the common pre-boot steps. Replace it with a call to bootm_final(). Drop the ARM weak board_quiesce_devices() definition since it is now called from bootm_final() and the generic weak definition in bootm.h is used instead. Note that the printf() ordering changes slightly: it now prints before bootstage processing rather than after, matching x86 and RISC-V. 2025-11-06ARM: bootm: Add support for starting Linux through OPTEE-OS on ARMv7aMarek Vasut
Add support for jumping to Linux kernel through OPTEE-OS on ARMv7a. This is only supported if U-Boot runs in PL1 secure. This change adds two components, one is fitImage OPTEE-OS loadable handler, which makes a note of OPTEE-OS being loaded and stores the load address for later jump to it. The second part is the actual jump to Linux through OPTEE-OS. The jump through OPTEE-OS requires set up of multiple CPU registers, r1 and r2 are passed through, r0 and r3 have to be set to 0, lr is set to Linux kernel entry point. This setup is done by new assembler function boot_jump_linux_via_optee(). The boot_jump_linux_via_optee() also includes STM32MP13xx late TZC configuration write, this cannot be moved easily, hence the ifdef. Signed-off-by: Marek Vasut <[email protected]>

U-Boot now stashes its bootstage buffer into a reserved memory region whenever CONFIG_BOOTSTAGE_STASH is enabled, just before exiting to the kernel. 2024-11-24dm: Add dm_remove_devices_active() for ordered device removalJanne Grunau
This replaces dm_remove_devices_flags() calls in all boot implementations to ensure non vital devices are consistently removed first. All boot implementation except arch/arm/lib/bootm.c currently just call dm_remove_devices_flags(DM_REMOVE_ACTIVE_ALL). This can result in crashes when dependencies between devices exists. The driver model's design document describes DM_FLAG_VITAL as "indicates that the device is 'vital' to the operation of other devices". Device removal at boot should follow this. Instead of adding dm_remove_devices_flags() with (DM_REMOVE_ACTIVE_ALL | DM_REMOVE_NON_VITAL) everywhere add dm_remove_devices_active() which does this. Fixes a NULL pointer deref in the apple dart IOMMU driver during EFI boot. The xhci-pci (driver which depends on the IOMMU to work) removes its mapping on removal. 2022-07-26zynqmp: Run board_get_usable_ram_top() only on main U-BootAshok Reddy Soma
With commit ce39ee28ec31 ("zynqmp: Do not place u-boot to reserved memory location"), the function board_get_usable_ram_top() is allocating MMU_SECTION_SIZE of about 2MB using lmb_alloc(). But we dont have this much memory in case of mini U-Boot. Keep these functions which use lmb under CONFIG_LMB so that they are compiled and used only when LMB is enabled. 2021-09-23lmb: Always compile arch_lmb_reserve() into U-Boot on armMarek Vasut
The arch_lmb_reserve() is called by lib/lmb.c lmb_reserve_common() even if CMD_BOOT{I,M,Z} is not enabled. However, the arm32/arm64 variant of arch_lmb_reserve() is only compiled in if CMD_BOOT{I,M,Z} is enabled. This currently does not trigger build error, because there is an empty weak implementation of arch_lmb_reserve(), however that is not the function that should be used on arm32/arm64. Fix this by moving the arch_lmb_reserve() implementation into common code and always compile it in. Use the environment variable armv8_switch_to_el1 to determine whether to switch to EL1 at runtime. This is an alternative to the CONFIG_ARMV8_SWITCH_TO_EL1 compile-time option. The environment variable will be ineffective if the ARMV8_MULTIENTRY config is used. While the goal is valid and there is surely unused memory in that area, we also have a lot of crucial things still located at the top-of-memory while running lmb_alloc_base. Such things are the page table (tlb_addr), relocated U-Boot and the active stack. Possibly more. So this patch was premature, we will need relocations of those things first if we want to use the range. Fixes booting on the IOT2050, but likely also on other boards. 2021-07-09arm: bootm: Disable LMB reservation for command line and board info on arm64Marek Vasut
On arm64, board info is not applicable and kernel command line patched into the DT, so the LMB reservation here makes no sense anymore. On legacy arm32, this might still be necessary on systems which do not use DT or use legacy ATAGS. Disable this LMB reservation on arm64. This also permits Linux DT to specify reserved memory node at address close to the end of DRAM bank, i.e. overlaping with U-Boot location. Since after boot, U-Boot will be no more, this is OK. On ARMv8 systems load mmc 0:1 $loadaddr vmlinuz-5.10.0-3-arm64 booti leads to a hanging system requiring to physically reset the system: FDT and ATAGS support not compiled in - hanging ### ERROR ### Please RESET the board ### For systems where physical access is difficult hanging is a poor choice. The Linux coding style guide (Documentation/process/coding-style.rst) clearly says: It's a **mistake** to use typedef for structures and pointers. Besides, using typedef for structures is annoying when you try to make headers self-contained. Let's say you have the following function declaration in a header: void foo(bd_t *bd); This is not self-contained since bd_t is not defined. To tell the compiler what 'bd_t' is, you need to include <asm/u-boot.h> #include <asm/u-boot.h> void foo(bd_t *bd); Then, the include direcective pulls in more bloat needlessly. If you use 'struct bd_info' instead, it is enough to put a forward declaration as follows: struct bd_info; void foo(struct bd_info *bd); Right, typedef'ing bd_t is a mistake. I used coccinelle to generate this commit. This fixes 'arch_lmb_reserve()' for ARM that tries to detect in which DRAM bank 'sp' is in. This code failed if a bank was at the end of physical address range (i.e. size + length overflowed to 0). To fix this, calculate 'bank_end' as 'size + length - 1' so that such banks end at 0xffffffff, not 0. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. 2018-04-13vxworks: fixed cpu enable using PSCI on armv8Vasyl Vavrychuk
Without armv8_setup_psci register VBAR_EL3 is not set up property which makes SMC calls jump to invalid location. smp_kick_all_cpus is required to make slave cpus leave gic_wait_for_interrupt. Without this they will never pursue booting process. Fix was applied to the two ways of booting VxWorks: bootvx and bootm commands. This implementation is very similar to what is done in boot_jump_linux in arch/arm/lib/bootm.c file. Tested on VxWorks 7 release SR0520 2017-12-08 Intel Stratix 10 SX SoC Development Kit board. arch_lmb_reserve() currently assumes that the stack pointer is within DRAM bank 0. This is not necessarily true. Enhance the code to search through DRAM banks until the bank that does contain SP is found, and then reserve the tail of that bank. 2017-01-18armv8: aarch64: Fix the warning about x1-x3 nonzero issueAlison Wang
For 64-bit kernel, there is a warning about x1-x3 nonzero in violation of boot protocol. To fix this issue, input argument 4 is added for armv8_switch_to_el2 and armv8_switch_to_el1. The input argument 4 will be set to the right value, such as zero.
