2025-04-11Kbuild: Always use $(PHASE_)Tom Rini
It is confusing to have both "$(PHASE_)" and "$(XPL_)" be used in our Makefiles as part of the macros to determine when to do something in our Makefiles based on what phase of the build we are in. For consistency, bring this down to a single macro and use "$(PHASE_)" only. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>

Currently both USB host uclass and USB gadget uclass are using the same name "usb" which break uclass functions like uclass_get_by_name(). Rename the uclass to "usb_gadget" to fix, also makes bind/unbind by class index (or sequence) working. This breaks the capacity of using "usb" as DT alias sequence numbering which needs a fix afterwards. 2024-07-05usb: gadget: Introduce handle_interrupts ops to USB_GADGET_GENERIC uclassMarek Vasut
Introduce .ops for USB_GADGET_GENERIC uclass. The first new ops is .handle_interrupts which must be implemented by DM capable USB gadget controller drivers and must implement interrupt handling similar to dm_usb_gadget_handle_interrupts(). This patch currently provides weak dm_usb_gadget_handle_interrupts() implementation which is overridden by the drivers, but this will be removed once conversion to handle_interrupts callback is complete. 2023-11-21usb: udc: Try to clarify an error messageMiquel Raynal
At some point when trying to use USB gadgets, two situations may arise and lead to a failure. Either the UDC (USB Device Controller) is not available at all (not described or not probed) or the UDC is already in use. For instance, as the USB Ethernet gadget remains bound to the UDC, the use of any other USB gadget (fastboot, dfu, etc) *after* will always fail with the "couldn't find an available UDC" error. Let's give a more helpful message by making a difference between the two cases. Let's also hint people who would get this error and grep it into the sources a better explanation of what's wrong with their workflow. The usb_gadget_handle_interrupts() is no longer used anywhere, replace the remaining uses with dm_usb_gadget_handle_interrupts() which takes udevice as a parameter. Some of the UDC drivers currently ignore the index parameter altogether, those also ignore the udevice and have to be reworked. Other like the dwc3_uboot_handle_interrupt() had to be switched from index to udevice look up to avoid breakage. 2020-02-19dma-mapping: move dma_map_(un)single() to <linux/dma-mapping.h>Masahiro Yamada
The implementation of dma_map_single() and dma_unmap_single() is exactly the same for all the architectures that support them. Factor them out to <linux/dma-mapping.h>, and make all drivers to include <linux/dma-mapping.h> instead of <asm/dma-mapping.h>. If we need to differentiate them for some architectures, we can move the generic definitions to <asm-generic/dma-mapping.h>. Add some comments to the helpers. The concept is quite similar to the DMA-API of Linux kernel. Drivers are agnostic about what is going on behind the scene. Just call dma_map_single() before the DMA, and dma_unmap_single() after it. 2020-02-05dm: core: Create a new header file for 'compat' featuresSimon Glass
At present dm/device.h includes the linux-compatible features. This requires including linux/compat.h which in turn includes a lot of headers. One of these is malloc.h which we thus end up including in every file in U-Boot. Apart from the inefficiency of this, it is problematic for sandbox which needs to use the system malloc() in some files. Move the compatibility features into a separate header file. 2020-02-05dm: core: Require users of devres to include the headerSimon Glass
At present devres.h is included in all files that include dm.h but few make use of it. Also this pulls in linux/compat which adds several more headers. Drop the automatic inclusion and require files to include devres themselves. This provides a good indication of which files use devres. 2019-11-07usb: udc: Introduce ->udc_set_speed() methodSherry Sun
This patch was copied from kernel commit: 67fdfda4a99ed. Sometimes, the gadget driver we want to run has max_speed lower than what the UDC supports. In such situations, UDC might want to make sure we don't try to connect on speeds not supported by the gadget driver because that will just fail. So here introduce a new optional ->udc_set_speed() method which can be implemented by interested UDC drivers to achieve this purpose. commit 801f1fa442 "dm: usb: udc: Use SEQ_ALIAS to index the USB gadget ports" changed the way the udevice if found. It uses the alias to find a udevice for a given USB port number. 2019-01-10dm: usb: udc: Use SEQ_ALIAS to index the USB gadget portsJean-Jacques Hiblot
dfu, fastbot and other usb gadget commands take the USB port index as a parameter. Currently this index is assigned in the order of the driver bindings. Changing this behavior using the SEQ_ALIAS feature. This option assign to the device a SEQ number based on its alias (if it exists) To use it we must set the DM_UC_FLAG_SEQ_ALIAS flag and follow the existing naming convention: use "usb" for the name of the gadget UCLASS_DRIVER (same as for the UCLASS_USB). If no alias is provided, then the index falls back to the order in which the bindings took place. 2018-05-07SPDX: Convert all of our single license tags to Linux Kernel styleTom Rini
When U-Boot started using SPDX tags we were among the early adopters and there weren't a lot of other examples to borrow from. So we picked the area of the file that usually had a full license text and replaced it with an appropriate SPDX-License-Identifier: entry. Since then, the Linux Kernel has adopted SPDX tags and they place it as the very first line in a file (except where shebangs are used, then it's second line) and with slightly different comment styles than us. In part due to community overlap, in part due to better tag visibility and in part for other minor reasons, switch over to that style. This commit changes all instances where we have a single declared license in the tag as both the before and after are identical in tag contents. There's also a few places where I found we did not have a tag and have introduced one. Signed-off-by: Tom Rini <[email protected]>
2015-11-10Various Makefiles: Add SPDX-License-Identifier tagsTom Rini
After consulting with some of the SPDX team, the conclusion is that Makefiles are worth adding SPDX-License-Identifier tags too, and most of ours have one. This adds tags to ones that lack them and converts a few that had full (or in one case, very partial) license blobs into the equivalent tag.
